Paul Thomas Anderson’s black comedy One Battle After Another leads the Golden Globes 2026 nominations with nine nods. The film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, dominated the film categories when nominations were announced on Monday.
The Golden Globes ceremony will take place in Beverly Hills, California, on January 11, 2026. The event will reveal the winners across the major film and television categories.
One Battle After Another earned a nomination for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. The film follows Bob, played by DiCaprio, a former radical who tries to rescue his teenage daughter after an old enemy abducts her.
The film also earned several acting nominations. DiCaprio received a nod for Best Male Actor in a Musical or Comedy. Rising star Chase Infiniti also earned recognition for her role as Bob’s daughter.
Teyana Taylor received a nomination for Best Supporting Female Actor. Sean Penn also picked up a nomination in the Best Supporting Male Actor category.
Anderson received another major nod for Best Director. The strong showing makes One Battle After Another one of the biggest contenders at the 2026 Golden Globes.
A ‘Wicked’ year
Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo each received another Golden Globes nomination for their performances as Glinda and Elphaba.
The recognition marks the second consecutive year that both actresses have earned nominations for the same roles. Their back-to-back recognition is a rare achievement at the awards.
Wicked: For Good, the sequel to the successful 2024 musical, did not receive a nomination for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. However, Grande and Erivo still secured individual nominations for their performances.
Grande described the second nomination as both exciting and surprising in comments to The Hollywood Reporter. She said she felt deeply honoured to receive recognition for the same character again.
Meanwhile, the supernatural thriller Sinners also secured several major nominations. The film received a nod for Best Motion Picture – Drama.
Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value performed strongly as well. The film earned eight nominations, including recognition for its cast and creative team.
The 83rd Golden Globe Awards will bring the nominees together in Beverly Hills in January. With One Battle After Another leading the film nominations, the ceremony could become a major night for Anderson, DiCaprio and the rest of the film’s cast.
