The year 2026 promises a strong lineup of highly anticipated films. Major directors are returning, while popular franchises are also getting new instalments.
Christopher Nolan and Steven Spielberg will return with The Odyssey and Disclosure Day. Meanwhile, DC, Marvel and Star Wars fans have several major releases to anticipate.
Supergirl, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Avengers: Doomsday and The Mandalorian and Grogu are among the biggest titles scheduled for 2026.
Here are some of the most anticipated films of 2026.
28 Years Later: Bone Temple
The year begins with 28 Years Later: Bone Temple, a post-apocalyptic horror sequel to 2025’s 28 Years Later.
Nia DaCosta directs the film. Ralph Fiennes plays Dr. Kelson, while Alfie Williams returns as Spike.
The story follows Spike after he joins Jimmy Crystal’s group on the mainland. Meanwhile, Dr. Kelson discovers a secret that could change the world.
The sequel expands the story of the previous film. It also continues the franchise’s exploration of survival after the outbreak.
Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights arrives just before Valentine’s Day. The film brings Emily Brontë’s famous story of love and revenge to the big screen.
Emerald Fennell directs the adaptation. Margot Robbie plays Catherine Earnshaw, while Jacob Elordi portrays Heathcliff.
The story takes place on the Yorkshire moors. It follows the complicated relationship between Catherine and Heathcliff.
Brontë published the original novel in 1847 under the pen name Ellis Bell. The new adaptation gives the classic story a fresh cinematic interpretation.
Project Hail Mary
Project Hail Mary is another major science-fiction release scheduled for March.
Ryan Gosling stars as Ryland Grace, a science teacher who wakes up alone and far from Earth. At first, he has no memory of how he reached the distant location.
Grace eventually remembers his mission. He must solve the mystery of a substance that threatens the Sun and humanity.
The film adapts Andy Weir’s 2021 science-fiction novel. Its combination of space exploration, mystery and survival makes it one of the year’s notable releases.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Super Mario fans will have another reason to visit cinemas in April.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie follows 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The animated adventure takes inspiration from the 2007 video game Super Mario Galaxy.
Chris Pratt returns as Mario, with Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and Charlie Day as Luigi. Jack Black also returns as Bowser.
Brie Larson joins the cast as Rosalina. Benny Safdie voices Bowser Jr., while Keegan-Michael Key returns as Toad.
The film continues Nintendo’s successful animated movie franchise with a new space-themed adventure.
The Devil Wears Prada 2
May will bring the return of The Devil Wears Prada.
Meryl Streep reprises her role as fashion editor Miranda Priestly. Anne Hathaway also returns as Andrea Sachs.
The sequel explores Priestly’s career as the traditional publishing industry faces major changes.
Emily Charlton, played by Emily Blunt, has also moved on from her former assistant role. She now works as an executive for a competing company.
The new story brings the original characters back together in a changing fashion and media industry.
The Odyssey
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is one of the biggest films scheduled for July.
Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, with Anne Hathaway as Penelope and Tom Holland as Telemachus. Robert Pattinson and Zendaya also appear in the film.
The movie adapts Homer’s ancient Greek epic. It follows Odysseus as he attempts to return home to Ithaca after the Trojan War.
His journey takes him through dangerous encounters with mythical figures and creatures. These include Circe, the Sirens and the Cyclops Polyphemus.
Nolan’s involvement and the film’s large ensemble make The Odyssey one of the most anticipated films of 2026.
Dune: Part Three
Denis Villeneuve will return to Arrakis with Dune: Part Three in December.
The film continues the story of Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet. It is expected to draw heavily from Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah, the sequel to the original Dune novel.
Paul, now known as Muad’Dib, faces the consequences of his growing power. His decisions continue to shape the future of the empire and the people of Arrakis.
The third film could bring Villeneuve’s Dune saga into a darker new chapter.
