Premier League Predictions: Arsenal vs Chelsea & Gameweek 3 Tips

Games keep coming thick and fast in the 2026/27 Premier League season.

There were no major shocks last weekend, with most of the big teams winning their matches, apart from Liverpool, who once again dropped points and had to settle for a draw.

Tottenham’s woes, meanwhile, showed no signs of ending as they were outclassed at home by Newcastle United.

But the season is still new, and anything can happen. This is a story we have seen many a time before.

Just last season, Liverpool started the campaign with five straight wins and added Alexander Isak to their title-winning team, but everything eventually felt like a house of cards. Early momentum can be misleading.

Here, Sport Just Sport writer Anurag Tyagi scours the markets for the televised top-flight tussles and provides some suggested bets for them.

Ipswich Town vs Liverpool

Friday, September 5, 20:00 (BST)

This was always going to be a transition phase at Anfield, but at a club the size of Liverpool, time is a luxury few can afford.

After two consecutive draws, new manager Andoni Iraola is feeling the heat ahead of the must-win match at Portman Road against Ipswich Town.

You don’t need to be on social media to know what fans think about where Liverpool should strengthen.

Since Fabinho left back in 2023, Liverpool have been without a world-class defensive midfielder.

Ryan Gravenberch did the job during the title-winning season two years ago, but he is not a natural DM, and his attacking instinct does leave Liverpool short of a man in the centre.

Other issues are around the full-backs, where Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez have both been poor, to say the least, in the first two matches.

Bradley Barcola’s arrival does make Liverpool more dangerous going forward, even if they have issues in the middle and at the back.

The two-time Champions League winner gives the Reds more teeth in attack and makes a case for themselves that they can outscore their opponents.

But no game is an easy fixture, especially away from home and against a newly promoted team.

Ipswich started their Premier League campaign with an impressive 2-1 win over Sunderland and took a 1-0 lead against Manchester United as well, before falling apart in the second half.

So Liverpool have to be at the top of their game if they want to record their first win under Andoni Iraola.

Head-to-head

Ipswich were in the Premier League two seasons ago and could record only four wins throughout the season.

Liverpool won both games, winning 2-0 at Portman Road and 4-1 at home. Overall, Ipswich are on a five-game losing streak against Liverpool heading into this game.

Match odds

These are the kind of games Liverpool can’t afford to drop points in, and we think the visitors have enough firepower to outscore their opponents and get their first win of the season.

At 58/100, Liverpool are odds-on favourites to win the match, while Ipswich are 9/2 to surprise us. A chance for a draw stands at 18/5.

Suggested bet

Despite Liverpool’s issues at the back, this is the game Liverpool should win.

Liverpool to score anytime and to win by at least a two-goal margin.

Hull City vs Aston Villa

Saturday, September 5, 17:30 (BST)

Believe it or not, Hull City are one of the favourites to go down this season, together with the other two promoted teams, Coventry City and Ipswich Town.

But if 40 points has historically been a safe mark, then they have already covered one-sixth of that target after winning their opening two games.

The Tigers opened the season with an impressive 2-0 win over Manchester United before winning 1-0 against Coventry City this past weekend.

Aston Villa head into this game with their tails firmly between their legs.

They were comprehensively beaten 4-0 by Brighton and Hove Albion in the opening match, and though a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of the champions Arsenal may not look like a one-sided match, believe us, it was, as the Villans failed to register a shot on target throughout the match.

Head-to-head

In 35 head-to-head games, Aston Villa have won 19 times against Hull City, losing just six times, while the other 10 matches ended in draws.

In fact, the Birmingham-based side have lost just once against Hull since 1988.

Interestingly, that sole defeat came during the 2014/15 Premier League season, when Hull City were last in the Premier League and won 2-0.

Match odds

Despite Aston Villa’s poor start to the 2026/27 Premier League season, they are still seen as favourites to win this game, with odds standing at 17/20, while Hull City have distant odds of 16/5 to win the game.

The chance of a draw stands at 11/4 ahead of this match.

Suggested bet

Hull City to score anytime, but Aston Villa to clinch the win by a single-goal margin.

Everton vs Manchester United

Sunday, September 6, 14:00 (BST)

Michael Carrick will be feeling much better ahead of this game as his team clocked a come-from-behind 5-2 win over Ipswich Town last weekend.

Three goals from captain Bruno Fernandes proved why he remains the talisman at the club.

Now comes the tough part for Manchester United, as this is an away game against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton look like a completely different team under David Moyes, and their unbeaten start to the new season suggests that the Toffees could be a threat to break into the top six this season if they can maintain their stronghold at home.

Head-to-head

Although this is not a derby, a match between Everton and Manchester United has been one of the most frequently played fixtures in the English top flight.

Both teams have faced each other a total of 217 times across all competitions, with United holding the upper hand.

The Red Devils have won 97 of those matchups, while Everton have registered 72 wins, with 48 matches ending in draws.

Match odds

Since 2019, Manchester United have lost only twice against Everton in all competitions. But the Toffees have been on the up, and their results under David Moyes reflect their improvement.

This is a hard fixture to call, with the betting odds also suggesting there is little between the two teams.

A home win stands at 21/10, while an away win is priced at 5/4, with the chance of a draw at 13/5.

Suggested bet

Hard to call, but we are leaning towards a 1-1 draw.

Hampshire stalwart Kyle Abbott has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him at Utilita Bowl until at least the end of the 2027 season.

Arsenal vs Chelsea

Sunday, September 6, 16:30 (BST)

Easily the standout fixture this weekend as Arsenal take on Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening.

Unlike the last few seasons, this time the game is expected to go down to the wire, as Chelsea are a completely different team under Xabi Alonso, playing attacking football with hunger.

Cole Palmer is once again looking like the player we saw two seasons ago. The former Manchester City star has scored once in each of the first two matches and will pose a threat to the Arsenal defence.

But this is Arsenal playing at home, the champions. This is the team being seen as the most likely to win the title yet again. And there are reasons for that.

Arsenal have quality and depth in every position. Just look at the bench Mikel Arteta named against Aston Villa, with the likes of Eberechi Eze, Bruno Guimaraes, Viktor Gyokeres, Mikel Merino, Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke among the substitutes.

Head-to-head

Chelsea and Arsenal have faced each other 215 times across all competitions, with Arsenal enjoying the better head-to-head record.

The Gunners have won 88 of those matches, while the Blues have managed 66 victories, with the other 61 ending in draws.

But a better way to judge where this game might be heading is to look at their most recent meetings, and it is Arsenal all the way.

Chelsea are on a three-game losing run against Arsenal and remain winless against the Gunners since 2021.

Match odds

This is Arsenal playing at home, and the reigning champions look every bit like a team capable of defending their crown.

Not only do they look solid from the back to the front, but their squad depth means Arteta can call upon quality players from the bench without weakening the side.

Chelsea are strong as well, but this big game may have come too soon for Xabi Alonso, who is still trying to get the best out of his squad.

The betting market leans towards a home win, with Arsenal at 8/11 to claim the three points. Chelsea are a distant 4/1, while a draw is priced at 14/5.

Suggested bet

Arsenal to win, but Chelsea to score at any time.
