Arsenal suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season on Saturday.
The Gunners lost 3-0 to Brighton at the Amex Stadium. The result ended their perfect start to the campaign.
Pascal Gross, Charalampos Kostoulas and Chema Andres all scored for Brighton. The Seagulls produced an impressive performance against the defending champions.
Speaking to Mr Gamble, former Chelsea star and France World Cup winner Frank Leboeuf praised Brighton.
He also warned Arsenal that other teams could punish them if they fail to perform at their best.
Arsenal receive a wake-up call
Leboeuf believes Arsenal should treat the defeat as a lesson. He does not think the result should cause panic.
“It’s a lesson for Arsenal, but Brighton are a good team. We thought Arsenal had everything solved, but this result serves as a lesson.
“Look at Manchester City winning 5-3. They know they need to improve defensively, but with five wins from five games, they remain optimistic.
“As for Arsenal, many still believe they are the best team in the Premier League. However, if you aren’t at 100%, teams like Brighton will punish you.
“It’s a wake-up call, and hopefully they learn from it.”
Arsenal had won their opening four Premier League matches before visiting Brighton.
The Seagulls had also shown their quality earlier in the week. Brighton beat Manchester United in the League Cup.
The result therefore underlined Brighton’s ability to compete against established Premier League sides.
Could Brighton repeat Leicester’s title run?
Leboeuf also referenced Leicester City’s historic Premier League title win.
Leicester stunned English football by winning the 2015/16 Premier League title. They achieved the feat after several established clubs dropped points.
Leboeuf believes Brighton could benefit if the leading teams continue to lose matches.
“Remember when Leicester won the league? Anything can happen when other teams drop points and they will this season.
“Brighton deserves respect for their performances. Who knows what might happen?”
It is still very early in the season. Brighton’s current position does not mean they will repeat Leicester’s achievement.
However, their victories over Manchester United and Arsenal have highlighted their potential.
