Captain Harry Brook has admitted that England were “too careful” against Pakistan during their 87-run loss in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.
Pakistan recovered from 133-5 to post 302-9 in their allotted overs before bowling England out for just 215 as man of the match Arafat Minhas claimed career-best figures of 6-40.
England will now look to get their ODI tri-series campaign back on track when they face Sri Lanka at the same venue on Thursday, with the action set to get underway at 9am UK time.
Brook demands more from batters
In the wake of a disappointing result, Brook told Sky Sports: “We thought they [Pakistan] were slightly under par.
“It got dewy, as we thought it would do, and we were pretty happy at halfway.
“We thought [Tom] Banton, Ducky [Ben Duckett] set the tone to nearly get a 100 partnership, and then it was a case of losing too many wickets in clumps.
“We couldn’t really string the partnerships together and we ended up on the wrong side.
“We’ve spoken a lot about rotation of strike through the middle, but I think we were a little too careful against the spinners especially, so we can probably put them under a little bit more pressure in stages.
“We’ve got to talk about it and bounce back better on Thursday.”

Hussain backs England despite loss
Former England captain Nasser Hussain, meanwhile, said of the match: “A bit of credit to Pakistan, who in both innings fought back.
“They were 81-4 and 133-5 and yet managed to get over 300.
“England were going well and everyone was thinking they were going to win this game, but there was a bit of fight and a bit of character from Pakistan with bat and ball.”
Asked what Tuesday’s loss means for England going forward, Hussain added: “They’ve been on a good track, so don’t get too up when you win and don’t get too down when you haven’t chased 300.
“Just learn from the mistakes that you made.”
