Mia Goth cites irreconcilable differences in Shia LaBeouf divorce

Mia Goth has filed for divorce from Shia LaBeouf, bringing renewed attention to their nearly 10-year relationship. The Hollywood couple has experienced several periods of separation and reconciliation.

According to the filing, Goth submitted her divorce petition to the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday. The documents cite irreconcilable differences and list July 2025 as the date of their separation.

Custody request follows months of split rumours

The couple’s four-year-old daughter sits at the centre of the custody request. She was born in March 2022.

Goth is seeking primary legal and physical custody of their daughter. She has also requested visitation rights for LaBeouf.

Neither actor has publicly commented on the divorce filing.

Rumours about their separation surfaced in February. Page Six reported that the couple had split almost a year earlier. The report also claimed that LaBeouf had moved to New Orleans.

The report appeared days after authorities apprehended LaBeouf in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. He reportedly faced two counts of simple battery.

LaBeouf later addressed the separation rumours in an interview. He said the pair were working through their co-parenting arrangements and were doing well.

The divorce filing also coincided with another legal development involving LaBeouf. Goth filed her petition one day after his former girlfriend, FKA Twigs, ended her latest lawsuit against him.

FKA Twigs, whose legal name is Tahliah Barnett, asked the court to dismiss the second lawsuit. Court documents reportedly stated that LaBeouf had agreed to void the disputed provisions.

LaBeouf dated Twigs from 2018 to 2019. During that period, he and Goth were reportedly separated but remained legally married.

LaBeouf later clarified their rumoured split in an interview, saying the two were working out co-parenting and were doing well.

The petition also landed alongside another legal development.

Goth filed a day after LaBeouf’s ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs, whose legal name is Tahliah Barnett, brought her latest lawsuit against him to a close.

Twigs moved to dismiss the second suit, saying in court documents that LaBeouf had agreed to void the contested provisions.

LaBeouf was romantically involved with Twigs from 2018 to 2019, while he and Goth were separated but still legally married.

A marriage that has been here before

Being on the brink of a divorce was not a new situation for the pair.

A representative for LaBeouf said the couple almost legalised their separation in 2018 after a divorce was filed nearly two years into their marriage.

However, talks over their reconciliation spread after photos released in 2020 captured them kissing in Los Angeles with both their wedding rings on.

This reunion led to the birth of their daughter in 2022.

What comes next for the latest petition, including whether LaBeouf will contest the custody request or how the proceedings will unfold, is still unknown.

Goth’s career is thriving, with recent high-profile roles including the unfaithful servant Melantho in “The Odyssey,” while LaBeouf has increasingly focused on independent projects.

For now, the case moves to the family courts, where the couple’s priority will presumably be their young daughter.
