Mikel Arteta has agreed a new contract with Arsenal, keeping him at the club as the Premier League champions continue their long-term project.
Arteta’s previous deal, signed in September 2024, was due to expire next summer.
However, the Arsenal boss has now agreed to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium. The Spaniard guided the Gunners to the Premier League title last season.
Arsenal expect to confirm the new agreement during the current international break. The announcement will end uncertainty over Arteta’s future.
Arteta commits his future to Arsenal
Arteta joined Arsenal in December 2019. Since then, he has overseen a major transformation at the club.
The 44-year-old took charge during a difficult period for the Gunners. He then helped build a team capable of challenging for major honours.
His work reached a major milestone last season. Arsenal won the Premier League title for the first time since 2004.
Arteta had already played down concerns about his contract. Before Arsenal’s trip to Brighton on September 19, he said both sides shared the same ambition.
“I think we are all very much aligned; whenever the time is right, we’ll get that done. There is nothing to be concerned about.”
He also added:
“I think we both have the same ambition and the same will. So whenever we have time, we’ll get that resolved.”
The new contract now removes the uncertainty around Arteta’s future. It also allows him to focus on Arsenal’s pursuit of more silverware.
Arsenal look to build on Premier League title
The contract extension comes at an important point for Arsenal, who are now looking to defend their Premier League crown while competing for further trophies.
The club have also strengthened their squad during the summer, including the additions of Ezri Konsa, Bruno Guimaraes and other new signings as they look to compete on multiple fronts.
However, Arsenal have already suffered a setback this season after losing 3-0 to Brighton in their latest Premier League fixture.
That result ended their perfect start to the campaign, but Arteta’s new contract shows that the club remain committed to the project that has developed under his leadership.
With the manager now set to remain at Arsenal beyond his previous deal, attention will turn towards what else he can achieve with the Premier League champions in the coming seasons.
