Gamescom 2025: Biggest Games and News to Watch

Gamescom, the world’s largest video game trade fair, has kicked off its 2025 event in Cologne, Germany. The event features major announcements from game developers and technology companies.

The opening-night live broadcast took place on August 19. Gamescom then opened its doors in Cologne from August 20 to August 24.

The event is not limited to industry professionals. Gamescom 2025 also welcomes gaming fans from the general public.

Opening night’s big reveals

Gamescom’s opening night featured several major announcements. LEGO Batman, a Sekiro anime adaptation and several other projects made headlines.

After months of rumours, developers finally confirmed LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. TT Games is developing the new title, although the studio has not announced a release date.

LEGO Games described the project as a new open-world action-adventure game. Players will follow Bruce Wayne as he begins his journey to become Gotham City’s hero.

The game will draw inspiration from decades of Batman films, television shows, comic books and video games. It will also feature DC lore and TT Games’ trademark LEGO humour.

Gamescom also revealed an anime adaptation of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The series will carry the title Sekiro: No Defeat and is currently in production. The anime is scheduled to arrive in 2026.

Another major reveal involved the fourth game in the popular Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War series.

The trailer showed the legendary Blood Ravens Chapter of Space Marines and Adeptus Mechanicus forces battling the Orks and Necrons. Their fight centres on protecting the world of Kronus.

The event also delivered an unexpected sequel announcement. Developers revealed Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the follow-up to Black Myth: Wukong.

The upcoming game draws inspiration from Zhong Kui, a figure from Chinese mythology. The project remains in the early stages of development.

NVIDIA highlights new gaming technology

NVIDIA opened its Gamescom 2025 showcase with a focus on RTX technology.

The company revealed that more than 175 games and applications now support its latest graphics technologies. These include DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation.

NVIDIA also announced more than 10 new RTX titles with DLSS 4 support during the event.

One of the major games highlighted by the company was Borderlands 4. The upcoming title will receive major graphics and performance optimisations through DLSS 4.

Hyundai brings gaming and cars together

Gaming also plays a major role in Hyundai’s Gamescom presence.

The company is displaying its INSTEROID concept car at a special exhibition in Cologne. Visitors can also experience the INSTEROID Retro Arcade game in the Retro & Family Area.

Hyundai sees gaming as an important part of digital culture among younger audiences.

“Gaming has become a vital part of everyday digital culture for younger audiences, offering a highly immersive and interactive platform that drives active participation and brand engagement,” Hyundai Senior Vice President and Global Chief Marketing Officer Sungwon Jee said, according to the Manila Times.

He added that Hyundai uses gaming as part of its wider content marketing strategy. The company aims to respond to changing media habits and create stronger connections with younger audiences.

Gamescom 2025 offers plenty for gamers

Gamescom 2025 has already delivered several major announcements. From new LEGO Batman and Warhammer titles to the Sekiro anime and Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the event has given gamers plenty to discuss.

Technology has also taken centre stage, with NVIDIA showcasing the latest RTX features and Hyundai exploring the connection between gaming, cars and digital culture.

With the event continuing through August 24, more announcements and gaming news could still emerge from Cologne.
