Halsey to Star in Avan Jogia’s Horror Film ‘Replacer’

Halsey is set to play the lead in “Replacer”, a psycho-sexual horror film she co-wrote with her Canadian actor-director fiancé Avan Jogia.

Jogia will direct “Replacer”. The film was first presented to buyers in May at the 2026 Marché du Film. The annual film marketplace takes place alongside the Cannes Film Festival.

“Replacer” will mark an important step in Halsey’s acting career. She previously appeared in the 2024 neo-noir slasher “MaXXXine”. She also starred in the 2023 crime thriller “Americana” alongside Sydney Sweeney and Paul Walter Hauser.

The three-time Grammy nominee also starred in the fantasy horror project “If I Can’t Have I Love, I Want Power”. The hour-long visual film accompanied her 2021 album of the same name.

‘Electric club horror’

“Replacer” follows Proxy, played by Halsey. Proxy is a troubled DJ who becomes stranded in Montreal. She then meets an alluring artist and his friends. The group runs an underground radio station.

The station soon picks up a mysterious signal from beneath the city’s subway system. The broadcast becomes distorted by the strange signal.

Proxy must find a way to escape. She also has to protect her new friends. The sound threatens to transform them into something raw, primal, and unrecognisable.

Jogia has also shared details about the film’s tone. He described “Replacer” as an electric club horror story. The film will also explore romance, belonging, and community.

“Replacer” will blend horror with a more vulnerable romantic story. The director teased the project in a statement earlier this year.

Growing cast

Halsey will lead a growing cast in “Replacer”. Actors Juliette Gariépy and Karl Glusman have joined the film.

Production is scheduled to begin in Montreal on September 16, according to Deadline. The project is now moving closer to principal photography.

Gariépy gained attention for her role in the 2023 independent crime drama “Red Rooms”. Glusman is known for films including “Love” and “The Neon Demon”.

Lilly Wachowski will also executive produce “Replacer”. She directed “The Matrix” franchise with her sister Lana Wachowski.

German producer and composer Alex Ridha, also known as Boys Noize, will provide the film’s score.

‘The Girl in the Tower’

The latest “Replacer” news comes after the release of Halsey’s first concert film, “The Girl in the Tower”.

The 75-minute film arrived on YouTube on August 27. It features performances from Halsey’s European festival tour.

The concert film also gives her pop hits a rock-focused sound. Her setlist includes “Without Me”, “Nightmare”, “I am Not a Woman, I’m a God”, “Colors”, and “Closer”.

Halsey performed the songs for sold-out crowds in Italy, Czechia, and Belgium.

Her upcoming role in “Replacer” adds another major project to her growing film career. The horror film will also give her a chance to work closely with Jogia as both a writer and director.
