Meetings between Celtic and Rangers will have no away supporters this season. The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) announced the decision.
The decision follows an independent review into trouble involving both sets of fans after a Scottish Cup clash in March.
Rangers will host Celtic at Ibrox in the Scottish League Cup on September 13. The Old Firm rivals will then meet again at Parkhead in the Scottish Premiership a week later.
SPFL statement
The SPFL confirmed the decision in an official statement.
The league said that Celtic and Rangers had agreed to remove away supporters from their SPFL matches for the rest of the 2026/27 season.
The SPFL said the temporary arrangement will give both clubs time to consider the findings of the independent review.
Police Scotland and other relevant stakeholders will also take part in the process.
The league said the clubs can now plan future fixtures with greater certainty. The arrangement should also reduce uncertainty around ticketing for individual matches.
The SPFL added that safety and security remain the main priorities.
The league will review the decision if circumstances change during the season.
Celtic and Rangers will also discuss arrangements for matches beyond the current campaign before the 2027/28 season.
Managers react
Celtic manager Martin O’Neill reacted to the decision after the announcement.
Speaking to Sky Sports, O’Neill said the decision would disappoint many supporters.
He also highlighted the importance of the Old Firm fixture.
O’Neill said the two clubs should perhaps discuss the situation and look for a solution.
He added that the absence of away supporters would not improve the atmosphere around the fixture.
