American Horror Story Season 13 Brings Back Icons

“American Horror Story” is turning its 13th season into a massive reunion, bringing back some of the anthology’s most recognizable characters as they join forces against what co-creator Ryan Murphy describes as an “ultimate evil.”

The trailer for “American Horror Story: 13” features the returns of Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, along with several other stars reprising characters from previous seasons.

The new instalment will connect characters from across the anthology rather than focus on a single storyline.

‘Back to the greatest show on Earth’

The trailer opens with Lange reprising Elsa Mars from “Freak Show” and welcoming viewers back to the “greatest show on Earth.”

She is soon joined by other familiar figures, including Twisty the Clown and Peters’ James Patrick March from “Hotel.”

March later warns, “Get in. It’s witch-hunting season,” leading into the return of characters from “Coven.”

Paulson returns as current Supreme Cordelia Goode, who warns of an imminent danger for the coven.

“A harbinger of our doom,” Goode says in the trailer. “So much terrifying and vengeful death. Something wicked this way comes.”

The scenes flash to familiar locations throughout the anthology, from the sinister Hotel Cortez from “Hotel,” to the halls of Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies and the streets of New Orleans from “Coven.”

Legacy

The official synopsis describes the season as an all-star continuation of the anthology’s legacy.

“Bringing together an all-star cast, many of whom are reprising fan-favorite roles, AHS: 13 continues to build on the anthology’s decades-long legacy that has been streamed more than 700 million hours across the globe and spawned a legion of dedicated fans,” the synopsis reads.

“Which iconic horrors will return to haunt the hallowed halls of 13 and what new terrors await? Light your candles, draw your pentagrams and prepare for a supreme surprise.”

Old faces, new horrors

The “AHS” trailer gave a hint on whose iconic characters will return for the season.

Aside from Elsa Mars from “Freak Show”, Lange will also reprise her role as Constance Langdon (“Murder House), Sister Jude (“Asylum”) and Fiona Goode (“Coven”).

Peters will reprise his roles as Tate Langdon from “Murder House” and Kai Anderson from “Cult,” with his other two roles still a mystery.

The trailer also shows Paulson juggling several roles, including Hypodermic Sally (“Hotel”), Wilhelmina Venable (“Apocalypse”), Tuberculosis Karen and Mamie Eisenhower (“Double Feature).

The returning cast also includes Angela Bassett (Marie Laveau from “Coven”), Kathy Bates (Madam Delphine LaLaurie from “Coven”), Frances Conroy (Myrtle Snow from “Coven”), Gabourey Sidibe (Quennie from “Coven”), Billie Lourd (Mallory from “Coven”, Winter Anderson from “Cult”), John Carroll Lynch (Twisty the Clown from “Freak Show), Leslie Grossman (Coco from “Apocalypse) and Jamie Brewer (Nan from “Coven”).

New faces

Meanwhile, there are also new faces that will amp up the scare factor for “13,” including “Pink Flamingos” director John Waters, “America Love Story” actor Paul Anthony Kelly, “Mean Girls” star Avantika Vandanapu, “Riverdale” mainstay Madelaine Petsch, “American Crime” series regular Joey Pollari and fashion model Alex Consani, among others.

“American Horror Story: 13” will premiere on September 24.

The 13-episode season will consist of half-hour episodes and conclude on October 29.

Despite the significance of the reunion, Season 13 will not mark the end of the anthology.

Murphy has already confirmed that he is developing ideas for a 14th season.
