Just in time for her 45th birthday, Beyoncé has re-released a fully remastered version of “B’Day.”
The B’Day 20th Anniversary Edition marks 20 years since the singer released her acclaimed sophomore album.
The deluxe edition includes new tracks, rare B-sides and Spanish-language recordings. It also features collaborations with Maluma, Pharrell Williams and the late Selena Quintanilla.
Beyoncé has also upgraded the album’s music videos to 4K. The collection includes the video for “Déjà Vu,” which features her husband, Jay-Z.
“B’Day” originally arrived on September 4, 2006. Beyoncé was 25 years old at the time. The album produced major hits such as “Irreplaceable,” “Beautiful Liar,” “Listen,” “Déjà Vu,” “Ring the Alarm” and “Check on It.”
The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in September 2006. It later earned the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards in 2007.
Blending hip-hop with R&B
Beyoncé wanted “B’Day” to combine hip-hop and R&B.
In a statement shared with Variety, she explained her vision for the album. She wanted a powerful and energetic sound. At the same time, she wanted to keep the core elements of R&B.
“I wanted the album to be big, percussive, hard, up-tempo and energised,” she said.
Beyoncé also wanted to use live instruments. She felt that hip-hop was becoming more dominant at the time.
However, she wanted to protect the bridges, melodies and harmonies that define R&B.
The singer used sampling to connect both genres. She also embraced simple vocal arrangements, strong drum loops and classic guitar sounds.
Surprise collaborations
The B’Day 20th Anniversary Edition features 31 tracks on the digital deluxe release.
The collection includes Spanish versions of several songs. It also adds previously unreleased tracks and older B-sides from the “B’Day” era.
One major addition is “Morning Dew (Donk).” Beyoncé originally recorded the song years ago. She officially released it in 2026 ahead of the anniversary edition.
The track had already attracted attention online. A demo leaked in 2021, while a full version appeared online in 2023. The song later gained attention on TikTok.
The new edition also includes “Can I Watch You,” produced by Beyoncé and Pharrell Williams.
Other additions include “My First Time,” “Lost Yo Mind,” “Creole” and “Back Up.”
Posthumous duet
Another highlight is “Cuerpo Tumbao (Get Me Bodied),” featuring Colombian singer Maluma.
The song includes a sample of Celia Cruz’s “La Negra Tiene Tumbao.” Beyoncé has spoken about her admiration for Cruz and her pride in her cultural identity.
The reissue also features “Irreemplazable (Como La Flor),” which includes a posthumous duet with Selena Quintanilla.
Selena’s estate approved the use of her music for the collaboration. Beyoncé has previously credited Selena as an inspiration for her Spanish-language music.
The new B’Day 20th Anniversary Edition also includes several Spanish recordings and remixes.
The digital deluxe tracklist contains 31 songs. Fans can hear new material, anniversary editions of familiar songs and collaborations that expand the original album.
