Britney Spears has responded to allegations made by her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, in his upcoming memoir.
Federline’s memoir, You Thought You Knew, is due to arrive on October 21. Excerpts from the book contain claims about Spears’ alleged cheating, drug use and behavior around their two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.
Alarming allegations
Federline makes several serious claims about Spears in the memoir. He alleges that their sons were afraid to sleep at her home because she would stand in their doorways while holding a knife.
He also claims that Spears cheated on him with a female “starlet”. Other allegations involve drinking during pregnancy and cocaine use while breastfeeding their second son.
The claims have not been independently established in the information available here. Spears has strongly rejected Federline’s account.
“Extremely hurtful and exhausting”
Spears addressed the allegations in a lengthy post on X and Instagram. She described Federline’s claims as part of his “constant gaslighting”.
The singer called the situation “extremely hurtful and exhausting”. She also said that she has always wanted a closer relationship with her sons.
“Relationships with teenage boys (are) complex,” Spears wrote. She said she has repeatedly asked for her sons to remain part of her life.
Spears also claimed that she has seen one of her sons for only 45 minutes. She said she has seen the other just four times in the past five years.
The singer further accused Federline of showing her a lack of respect in front of their children.

“White lies… going straight to the bank”
Spears also criticised Federline over the memoir’s publication. She said the “white lies” included in the book would benefit him financially.
“I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here,” she added.
Spears’ representative also responded to the controversy. The representative said Federline and others were “profiting off her”.
The statement also pointed to the timing of the memoir. According to Spears’ representative, the book comes after Federline’s child-support payments ended.
Spears and Federline married in 2004 and divorced in 2007. They share two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.
“Freedom in exchange for naps with children”
Spears’ representative said the singer remains focused on her children and their well-being.
The singer previously discussed her difficult relationship with her sons in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me. She also wrote about the custody battle and her experience under a conservatorship.
A Los Angeles court ended Spears’ conservatorship in 2021. The arrangement had controlled many areas of her personal and financial life since 2008.
During that period, Federline had primary custody of their sons. Spears later spent more time with her children after the conservatorship ended.
In The Woman in Me, Spears described how deeply she wanted time with her sons. She wrote that she would have traded her freedom for simple moments with them.
The latest dispute has renewed attention on the former couple’s long and complicated relationship. Federline’s memoir is expected to bring further discussion once it is released.
