It has been a week without dragons breathing fire on our screens, and we already miss them.
The third eight-episode season of “House of the Dragon” ended on August 9. The finale closed another chapter of the Targaryen civil war.
Earlier, on January 18, 2026, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” introduced fans to Egg and Ser Duncan.
The six-episode series draws from George R.R. Martin’s “Tales of Dunk and Egg” novellas. It follows Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall and his young squire, Egg.
The story takes place about a century before the events of the original “Game of Thrones”.
Now, “House of the Dragon” is on a break. The first season of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” has also ended.
So, what comes next for the world of Westeros?
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms 2
Fortunately, fans already have another Westeros adventure on the way.
HBO has renewed “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” for a second season. The new season should arrive in the first half of 2027.
Season 2 will continue Egg and Ser Duncan’s journey across Westeros.
The story will draw from “The Sworn Sword”. It is the second novella in Martin’s “Dunk and Egg” series.
Production on Season 2 has also wrapped. That puts fans one step closer to seeing the unlikely duo return.
House of the Dragon’s final season
After we finish following the young Targaryen prince and his hedge knight companion, we will return to a time when dragons still ruled the skies.
HBO has already confirmed that “House of the Dragon” will return for a fourth and final season in 2028.
The announcement came before the third season premiered, confirming that the Targaryen saga would conclude with season 4.
Production is expected to begin in 2027.
Aegon’s Conquest
But HBO’s plans for Westeros do not necessarily end with the Targaryen civil war.
“Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest”, a feature film centered on Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros, is the latest major project announced for the franchise.
Warner Bros. revealed the film’s working title during its CinemaCon presentation in April 2026, and will be written by Beau Willimon.
The story will transport the fans to one of the pivotal moments in Westeros’ history – Aegon the Conqueror’s attempt to unite the majority of the Seven Kingdoms under Targaryen rule – almost 300 years before the events of the first Game of Thrones.
So, while it has been one week without dragons, fans can take comfort from knowing that the world of Westeros is still far from over.
