Jung plays Jeong-min, a kind-hearted South Korean man who remains devoted to his Vietnamese wife, Le Thi Hanh.
Vietnamese actress Juliet Bao Ngoc plays the younger Le Thi Hanh. Hong Dao portrays her older version, according to Vietnam News.
Star-studded promotional activities across Vietnam
The 38-year-old actor will join several promotional events during his Vietnam visit.
He will attend the film’s official premiere. Jung will also tour cinemas across the country and meet fans.
A special fan event will give his Vietnamese supporters another chance to meet the actor.
Leaving Mom has received a K rating. The film allows viewers under 13 to watch with adult supervision.
Advance screenings will take place on July 30 and 31. The film will then receive its nationwide release on August 1.
Jung’s strong Vietnamese fanbase
Jung visited Vietnam in mid-2024. His trip quickly went viral on social media.
The visit also strengthened his connection with Vietnamese fans. That popularity later helped bring him into the Leaving Mom project.
South Korean producer Kim Dae-kuen said the team invited Jung after learning about his popularity in Vietnam.
His role in Unstoppable High Kick also attracted strong interest from Vietnamese audiences.
Emotional story of family and resilience
Leaving Mom brings together filmmakers from Vietnam and South Korea. Mo Hong-jin directs the film, while Phan Gia Nhat Linh serves as producer.
The cast includes actors from both countries. Hong Dao, Tuan Tran, Juliet Bao Ngoc, Jung Il-woo, Quoc Khanh, Hai Trieu and Lam Vy Da all feature in the film.
The story follows a son caring for his mother as she battles Alzheimer’s disease.
At its heart, the film explores family and the bond between a mother and her son. It also examines friendship, love and resilience during difficult times.
