Andoni Iraola has made his first press appearance in Liverpool red.
The Spaniard has started a two-year contract at Anfield.
Iraola spoke to the media on Monday, 13 July. It marked his first press conference since Liverpool announced him as their new head coach in late May.
The former Bournemouth boss also watched the Reds’ under-21 training recently. His early involvement shows his focus as he starts a new chapter.
Hopes for the Reds
Iraola shared his hopes for his first season at Liverpool. He wants to build a team that makes supporters proud.
“I would like to give them a team that they can feel proud of.
“I think football, and especially Liverpool, for me is about connecting – connecting with the people, connecting with our supporters.”
Iraola also discussed the famous atmosphere at Anfield.
“I’ve been on the other side at Anfield.
“You can feel this stadium, and I would love to have this every game we play.”
Understanding his new role
Iraola also faced questions about his new role at Liverpool.
The Spaniard believes he understands the scale of the challenge. However, he knows some experiences will only come with time.
“I want to think I understand.
“Probably until you are not here and until I don’t go through certain experiences, I will not fully know, but I’m here to experience those situations.
“I’m ready for it. I understand this is a massive club.”
Iraola now faces the task of building his own Liverpool team. He will also need to meet the high expectations around the club.
His first press conference offered an early look at his approach. His comments also highlighted the importance of the supporters.
