Olivia Rodrigo’s debut festival, Daisy Chain Fields, has raised $20 million for nonprofits supporting women and girls.
The festival took place on Saturday, August 29. It initially raised $10 million for charitable organisations.
American philanthropist Melinda French Gates later pledged another $10 million. Her contribution doubled the total amount raised by the event.
Rodrigo headlined the festival alongside several major artists. The lineup included Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, Bikini Kill, The Breeders and Garbage.
Other performers included Eli, Quiet Light, Rachel Chinouriri, Devon Again, Not for Radio and Santigold.
French Gates doubles festival donations
Rodrigo thanked the artists who performed at Daisy Chain Fields. Many of them appeared at the festival without a performance fee.
She said their support helped the event raise $10 million for 10 charities.
Rodrigo also praised Melinda French Gates for supporting the festival’s mission.
French Gates then pledged to match the original $10 million donation. Her contribution brought the total funds raised to $20 million.
Rodrigo described the philanthropist as an important supporter of women and girls.
She also highlighted French Gates’ work to expand opportunities for women around the world.
10 nonprofits, one big mission
The Daisy Chain Fields donations will support 10 nonprofit organisations.
The beneficiaries are Baby2Baby, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Center for Reproductive Rights, FreeForm, Jhpiego and Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health.
The National Domestic Workers Alliance, National Institute for Reproductive Health, National Women’s Law Center and Planned Parenthood will also receive funding.
The organisations support women and girls in the United States and other parts of the world.
Rodrigo said she was grateful to French Gates and her organisation, Pivotal, for supporting the festival.
She also said the donations would strengthen the work of the organisations involved.
Music legends join Rodrigo
Daisy Chain Fields also featured several surprise performances.
Rodrigo joined Sarah McLachlan for a performance of “Building a Mystery”.
The pair later performed McLachlan’s “Angel” as a tribute to Dolly Parton. Parton’s image appeared on the screen during the performance.
Rodrigo also performed Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” with Stevie Nicks.
The appearances added some of the festival’s most memorable moments.
They also showed the range of artists who supported Rodrigo’s debut festival.
