Ozzy Osbourne sells empty cans containing his DNA for future cloning

Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne is selling empty cans containing traces of his DNA for $335 (£260), giving fans a bizarre way to own a piece of music history.

Osbourne teamed up with American beverage company Liquid Death for the limited-edition product.

The company calls the product Infinite Ozzy.

Only 10 signed cans went on sale. Each can contains trace samples from Osbourne’s saliva.

The unusual product quickly attracted attention from fans. Liquid Death’s website now says that all 10 cans have sold out.

Osbourne retails own saliva

The product features a can of Liquid Death iced tea that Osbourne drank from.

The company then sealed the can inside a lab-style display container. It also included trace samples of Osbourne’s saliva and his signature.

Liquid Death used the unusual product to promote a futuristic idea.

“Once technology and federal law permit, fans can use this DNA to try to clone Ozzy in the future and enjoy him for hundreds of years to come,” the company’s PR team said.

Liquid Death also used another provocative line on its website.

“Ozzy Osbourne is 1 of 1. But we’re selling his actual DNA so you can recycle him forever.”

The cans have already sold out.

The product fits Liquid Death’s reputation for unusual and deliberately provocative marketing. It also reflects Osbourne’s long-standing image as one of heavy metal’s most recognisable figures.

Birmingham farewell concert awaits

The Infinite Ozzy campaign arrives just weeks before the 76-year-old is set to return to the stage for what has been dubbed the final Black Sabbath show, with the heavy metal band having been on hiatus since the conclusion of The End Tour in 2017.

According to Billboard, Osbourne recently revealed that he’s undergoing intense training in preparation for Back to the Beginning, a massive July 5 hometown concert at Villa Park in Birmingham, England.

This will be his first full performance since 2018.

“I haven’t done any physical work for the last seven, six and a half, seven years,” Osbourne shared during the latest episode of his SiriusXM show Ozzy Speaks.

“By hook or by crook, I’m gonna make it [to Villa Park].

“I have got this trainer guy who helps people get back to normal. It’s hard going, but he’s convinced that he can pull it off for me.

“I am having my blood pressure taken 15 times a day. I’ve got this f***ing device on my finger. It’s a monitor to say how my heart rate is.”

Despite major health setbacks, including spinal surgeries and a Parkinson’s diagnosis, the music legend has remained active and continues to embrace his role as heavy metal’s most enduring provocateur.

Back to the Beginning will also feature performances from the likes of Metallica, Slayer, Alice in Chains, and many more.
