One of India’s most ambitious cinematic projects now has a date with audiences around the world.
Sony Pictures Entertainment has set November 6 as the Ramayana global release date for international theatrical audiences. The upcoming Indian epic stars Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi.
Director Nitesh Tiwari leads the project, while Namit Malhotra produces the film.
Sony Pictures Entertainment will distribute the movie internationally. Meanwhile, the film will have a separate release strategy in India.
The announcement places one of India’s most anticipated productions firmly on the global film calendar. Moreover, Sony aims to introduce the epic to audiences around the world.
An epic on a global stage
“Ramayana” draws its story from the ancient Indian epic of the same name. The tale remains one of the most important works in Indian literature and mythology.
The story follows Rama, a prince from Ayodhya. After exile forces him to leave his kingdom, he begins a journey that changes his life.
Eventually, Rama faces Ravana, the king of Lanka, in a major conflict.
Sita, Rama’s wife, plays a central role in the story. Meanwhile, Hanuman and other loyal allies support Rama during his mission to rescue her.
Generations have told and retold the epic in different forms. As a result, audiences can find many versions and adaptations across India, South Asia and Southeast Asia.
According to Variety, the filmmakers are developing the project as a two-part epic.

From Indian cinema to the world
The Ramayana global release date highlights the growing international reach of major Indian films.
The production team is preparing the movie for audiences beyond its home market. Therefore, the project aims to reach cinema-goers across several international territories.
For Sony, the film represents a significant effort to bring a major Indian epic to global cinemas. Instead of focusing only on India, the company plans a much broader theatrical release.
Ranbir Kapoor takes on the role of Rama. Sai Pallavi plays Sita, while Yash portrays Ravana.
Together, the cast brings one of India’s most enduring stories to a worldwide theatrical audience.
The film also demonstrates the increasing scale and ambition of modern Indian cinema. Furthermore, its international release could introduce the story to a new generation of viewers.
With the November 6 release date now confirmed, anticipation for “Ramayana” is likely to continue growing.
This time, however, the journey will extend far beyond India.
