Amazon MGM Studios has greenlit the highly anticipated sequel to the queer romantic comedy Red, White & Royal Blue. The new film is titled Red, White & Royal Wedding, and the name has already sparked speculation about wedding bells.
Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez will return as Prince Henry and Alex Claremont-Diaz, the First Son of the United States. Fans can expect the sequel to continue their love story after the dramatic events of the first film.
The first movie followed Alex and Henry as they developed a secret relationship. Their romance eventually became public, creating a major political and personal crisis.
The new title appears to hint at a royal wedding. However, Amazon MGM has not revealed the full plot yet.

Who are the minds behind ‘Red, White & Royal Wedding’?
Jamie Babbit will direct the sequel. Gemma Burgess, Matthew Lopez and Casey McQuiston are writing the script.
Babbit is best known for directing But I’m a Cheerleader, the 2000 queer comedy starring Natasha Lyonne. She has also directed episodes of Prime Video’s My Lady Jane and The Marvelous Ms. Maisel.
“After directing ‘But I’m a Cheerleader’ in my 20s, I’m thrilled to be back in the queer love universe of ‘Red, White & Royal Wedding’,” Babbit said in an Amazon statement.
“We all need this kind of optimism, fantasy, and gay joy. I’m thrilled to work with this brilliant team.”
Matthew Lopez, who directed the first movie, also welcomed the chance to continue Alex and Henry’s story.
He said he was excited to explore the couple’s next chapter and praised Babbit’s vision for the sequel.
McQuiston, whose 2019 novel inspired the original film, also expressed excitement about the new project. She described the first movie as a dream come true and hopes fans will enjoy the continuation of Alex and Henry’s story.

Potential returning cast members
Galitzine and Zakhar Perez are the only confirmed returning cast members so far.
However, more actors could join the sequel as production moves forward.
Uma Thurman previously played Alex’s mother, US President Ellen Claremont. She has also indicated that she would return for another film when the project was ready.
Clifton Collins Jr, Sarah Shahi and Rachel Hilson could also return to their respective roles. Amazon MGM has not confirmed their involvement yet.
When is the sequel releasing?
Amazon MGM has not announced an official release date for Red, White & Royal Wedding.
The studio has also kept the sequel’s plot details under wraps. For now, fans can rewatch Red, White & Royal Blue on Prime Video while waiting for more news.
The return of Galitzine and Zakhar Perez has already generated excitement among fans. With a new director, returning stars and a title that hints at a possible wedding, the sequel could take Alex and Henry’s romance in an exciting new direction.
