The horror parody film “Scary Movie” is giving fans a reason to celebrate as the franchise returns to the big screen. Anna Faris and Regina Hall will reprise their iconic roles in a brand-new installment of the popular film franchise.
The two stars will bring back their comedic chemistry as Brenda Meeks and Cindy Campbell. Their characters became fan favourites in the early 2000s.
The Wayans brothers return as writers
The Wayans brothers will write the much-awaited installment and bring their creativity back to the franchise.
Their eagerness to revive the story comes from the success of the 2000 blockbuster. The film gave the franchise a strong start in the film industry.
Marlon Wayans announced the project in a recent Instagram post. He wrote, “After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for… a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise!”
He also shared a photo of Faris and Hall together on the set of the original film.
Meanwhile, Michael Tiddes, best known for “A Haunted House,” will direct the new installment.
The production team expects to begin work later this year. The film currently has an official theatrical release date of June 12, 2026.
Nostalgia meets modern parody
The filmmakers have not revealed the plot details yet. However, sources say the reboot will satirise current horror trends and streaming-era thrillers.
The film will also feature the wild slapstick comedy that fans expect from the franchise.

Faris told PEOPLE Magazine last July, “I would love to work with Regina again. I just love her so much.”
“We would make each other giggle all day long. Regina Hall would be my answer. And money. But mostly all Regina!”
