Film news: Uli Latukefu to star in ‘The Legend of Zelda’

Every hero needs a villain. Link has finally found his.

Nintendo and Sony’s upcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda film has cast Uli Latukefu as Ganondorf.

Ganondorf remains one of the fantasy franchise’s most famous villains. He has also become one of gaming’s most recognizable antagonists.

The casting announcement answers one of the biggest questions surrounding the adaptation.

The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on April 30, 2027.

The King of Evil arrives

Australian actor Uli Latukefu will play Ganondorf.

The recurring villain has tormented Link, Princess Zelda and the people of Hyrule across several games.

Ganondorf remains one of Nintendo’s most iconic villains. He has served as the main threat in games such as Ocarina of Time and Tears of the Kingdom.

Reports also suggest that Latukefu has signed a multi-picture deal.

That agreement could allow Ganondorf to appear in future films.

More faces join Hyrule

The casting news also confirmed several additional additions to the movie’s lineup.

Yvonne Strahovski, Dichen Lachman, and the late Sam Neill have all joined the project.

While most roles remain under wraps, Lachman is reportedly set to play Impa, the trusted advisor and protector closely associated with Princess Zelda throughout the games.

The movie already starsBenjamin Evan Ainsworthas Link andBo Bragason as Princess Zelda, with “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” director Wes Ball at the helm.

From game console to cinema screen

Casting Ganondorf marks a major milestone for the adaptation.

While Link and Zelda may be the faces of the franchise, Ganondorf is often considered its defining villain. His presence signals that Nintendo is embracing one of the series’ most recognizable conflicts rather than reinventing the mythology for newcomers.

The announcement also follows months of fan speculation fueled by leaked set footage and rumors about who would ultimately portray the King of Evil.

The film is scheduled for theatrical release on April 30, 2027.
