This week, Sports News Blitz tipster Jeff Mexico has been measuring the height of buildings for Donald Trump.
Jeff discovered that Carnon Downs Garden Centre in Truro, the Ship Inn in Exeter and Oh, For Goodness Cake! in Shrewsbury are not as tall as the Lincoln Memorial.
That seemed to please the US commander-in-chief, even though he was asleep at the time.
Away from measuring buildings, it is Derby Day. Jeff has six tips for ITV’s coverage from Epsom this Saturday afternoon.
Jeff Mexico’s betting tips
Epsom once had several pubs named after Derby-winning horses or famous racing terms.
These included The Amato, The Ladas, The Eclipse, The Spread Eagle, The Blenheim and The Rubbing House. There was also the rather unimaginative Derby Arms.
Jeff claims he has been thrown out of most of these establishments for ungentlemanly behaviour.
There is also a long-standing gypsy tradition linked to the Amato. A mysterious tipster was said to write the name of a potential winner on the pub’s wishing well.
The prediction supposedly comes true three times out of four.
This year, the name on the list is second-favourite Item. Do not say Jeff did not warn you.
13.30 (Epsom) – The Betfred Tattenham Corner Stakes (Group 3)
Main tip: Alcantor
Smallish field so just one tip here, and Alcantor has caught my eye as he has the profile of a horse who is consistently competing at a higher level than most of these.
His recent form figures don’t scream ‘winner’, but they came in stronger company than this and he shaped encouragingly on his latest start.
14.05 (Epsom) – The Princess Elizabeth Stakes (Group 3)
Main tip: Princess Child
The market appears focused on She’s Perfect and Pacific Mission.
However, Princess Child’s ratings suggest she is closer to those rivals than the betting indicates.
She has raced in stronger company than many of these runners. She could also improve with only her second start of the season.
Her latest run was disappointing, though. She needs to show that she has retained her best form.
Each-way tip: Arisaig
Is proven over similar trips and has enough tactical versatility to secure a good position from stall six.
With only nine runners declared, she looks one of the more likely horses to hit the frame.
14.40 (Epsom) – The Coolmore Coronation Cup (Group 1)
Main tip: Jan Brueghel
Jan Brueghel is the selection in another small field.
He won this race in 2025 after beating Calandagan.
His previous Epsom success is a major positive. The track’s undulations can test even top-class horses.
15:15 (Epsom) – The Betfred ‘Dash’ Handicap Stakes
Main tip: Kinswoman
The Dash is a five-furlong, 20-horse downhill cavalry charge.
Anything can happen in such a competitive race. Traffic and positioning can make a huge difference.
Kinswoman is the favourite and catches Jeff’s eye.
She arrives in excellent form after a narrow defeat at Yarmouth on her seasonal return.
Unlike many of her rivals, she still has plenty of scope for improvement. She may not have reached the ceiling of her handicap mark.
Each-way tip: Eclairage
Eclairage arrives with solid recent form.
She finished second on her latest start and has shown enough to suggest she can compete again.
Billy Loughnane also takes the ride, which adds further appeal.
16:00 (Epsom) – The Betfred Derby (Group 1)
Main tip: Item
Some bloke wrote the name on a pub wishing well in Epsom.

Each-way tip: Action
Action finished second behind Item in the Dante Stakes.
The Dante is traditionally one of the strongest Derby trials.
Action also has the profile of a potential Derby improver. He is lightly raced, still learning and bred to stay.
That makes him an appealing each-way option.
16:40 (Epsom) – The Cherryfield Lester Piggott Handicap Stakes
Main tip: Allegresse
Allegresse comes from the Andrew Balding yard.
Balding has an excellent record in this race. His stable has won it three times in recent years.
Allegresse’s recent record reads 2-1-1-7-4. His seventh-place finish came in stronger company than this.
He returned with a respectable fourth on his seasonal debut. He should improve for that outing.
The Balding and Oisin Murphy combination is another major positive.
Each-way tip: Folk Pageant
Folk Pageant arrives after a notable victory at Chester.
He travelled strongly, stayed on well and looked capable of further improvement.
Chester form can often translate well to Epsom. Both tracks demand balance around their bends.
