‘Scary Movie’ Revival Reunites Beloved Comedy Duo

The horror parody film Scary Movie is giving fans a reason to celebrate. The franchise will return to the big screen with a brand-new instalment.

Actresses Anna Faris and Regina Hall will reprise their iconic roles. They will once again play Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks.

The characters became fan favourites during the franchise’s early-2000s run.

The Wayans brothers return as writers

The Wayans brothers will write the upcoming film. Their return brings the original creative team back to the franchise.

The brothers helped launch Scary Movie with the hit film released in 2000. That success gave the franchise a major push in Hollywood.

Marlon Wayans recently announced the new project on Instagram.

“After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for… a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise!”

He also shared a photo of Faris and Hall on the set of the original film.

Meanwhile, Michael Tiddes will direct the new movie. He previously directed A Haunted House.

Production is expected to begin later this year. The film currently has a June 12, 2026 theatrical release date.

Nostalgia meets modern parody

The filmmakers have not revealed the full plot yet. However, early reports suggest a mix of modern horror trends and streaming-era thrillers.

The new story could also bring back the franchise’s trademark slapstick comedy.

Modern horror has plenty of material for the film to parody. From the return of Scream to viral online scares, almost anything could become a target.

The Scary Movie franchise has already shown impressive staying power. The series has produced four sequels since its 2000 debut.

Together, those films have earned nearly US$900 million worldwide.

The series also became a comedy favourite during the early 2000s. Its sharp parody of horror movies and popular culture helped drive that success.

Fans anticipate a comic comeback

Hall and Faris last appeared together in Scary Movie 4 in 2006.

Now, their return has created plenty of excitement online. Long-time fans are eager to see the duo bring fresh energy to the franchise.

Faris previously spoke about working with Hall again. She told PEOPLE Magazine in July:

“I would love to work with Regina again. I just love her so much.”

She added:

“We would make each other giggle all day long. Regina Hall would be my answer. And money. But mostly all Regina!”

The upcoming Scary Movie revival combines nostalgia with modern cultural satire. It will also bring back the absurd comedy that made the franchise famous.

As a result, fans will get another chance to see why Scary Movie became one of Hollywood’s best-known parody franchises.
