The Boys Season 5 will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on April 8. The fifth season will also be the show’s final chapter.
New episodes will arrive weekly. The series finale is scheduled for May 20.
The final season will continue the brutal conflict between Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and Homelander (Antony Starr). As the show has proved since its first season, however, no character is truly safe.
“Very soon the last chapter will unfold. You’re not reaaady,” Starr wrote on Instagram.
A ‘Supernatural’ reunion
The new trailer features several familiar faces. It also introduces new characters to the final season.
Series creator Eric Kripke has reunited several stars from Supernatural. Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins will join Jensen Ackles in The Boys.
Ackles will return as Soldier Boy, Homelander’s father. The character is the show’s violent and controversial take on a classic superhero archetype.
Padalecki’s role remains a mystery. However, he appears briefly in the trailer.
Padalecki and Ackles previously played brothers Sam and Dean Winchester in Supernatural. The CW series followed the brothers as they hunted demons and supernatural creatures.
Supernatural ran for 15 seasons after its debut in 2005. It also built a huge global fanbase.
‘Big stuff’s gonna happen’
Prime Video’s official synopsis promises a major final conflict.
“It’s Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims,” the synopsis states.
Butcher, however, returns with a dangerous plan. He is prepared to use a virus that could wipe out all Supes.
The plan could change the world forever. It could also put Butcher and the rest of the characters on a collision course with Homelander.
“It’s the climax, people,” the synopsis says. “Big stuff’s gonna happen.”
Season 4 ended with several members of the Boys captured. Meanwhile, Butcher took a dose of Compound V, putting his future in serious danger.
The events of Gen V will also connect with the final season. The spin-off follows students at Godolkin University, where young Supes train for careers in the superhero world.
With these storylines coming together, The Boys Season 5 is set to deliver a dramatic conclusion.
